Hulu took a major leap into the world of media legitimacy today by announcing it had sold one of its original series to a foreign broadcaster.
Variety reported today that Space, a Canadian sci-fi channel, has picked up the rights to air Kevin Smith’s Spoilers series that is currently running on Hulu. This is the first original content from the company that has had a deal struck for traditional distribution. The deal was brokered by Alliance Media, a company that has sold Kevin Smith productions in foreign territories before.
It had been announced back in March that Hulu had retained FremantleMedia to try to sell properties in foreign markets such as Morgan Spurlock’s A Day in the Life – which is currently running on Hulu as an original series – but there has been no word on whether it has yet to sell any of the properties.
Episodes of Spoilers will begin running day-and-date with the Hulu airings from today on the cable network’s website, and then will begin airing on television on July 27.
